The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) along with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) have created an incentive program for new home construction. This program called New York ENERGY STAR Labeled Homes makes funds available to builders who participate in building a house whose energy standards are higher than currently mandated through code. In order to facilitate this new program NYSERDA and Building Performance Institute (BPI) have certified third party contractors in building science technology to provide certification to new homes. Home Energy Solutions, (HES) is a certified contractor who can provide and help guild you through achieving this level of energy conservation. Our job is to take all the confusion out of the program and give you the level of comfort you need to be an active and successful participant in this program. HES will give you hands on evaluation starting with reviewing your plans prior to commitment. HES will provide you with a comprehensive plan of how your current building rates energy wise as well as what impact the necessary changes and overall cost of these changes will be. Once the builder commits to the standards and practices of the ENERGY STAR Program, HES will immediately begin to meet with the contractors on your job site to instruct them on the level of workmanship needed in order to have a successful inspection process. HES starts as soon as the house has been completely closed in but prior to insulation. The air tightness on the building is a major factor in achieving a successful rating and may allow for smaller heating and cooling systems. Air infiltration must be addressed before insulation is installed in order to seal up gaps in the framing. Once this has been achieved we conduct a blower door test to insure the tightness while it can be easily addressed. HES will do an insulation inspection before the sheetrock is installed. We will provide a thorough investigation of the size and quality of workmanship of the insulation contractor. Once the house is close to completion HES will do a final Blower Door, Duct Test and Combustion Safety Test which will insure that your entire combustion appliances are running safely and efficiently. These include Boiler, Hot water heater, gas oven and gas clothes dryer. HES submits all the collected data for Energy Star approval. In approximately two weeks we will adhere an “Energy Star Home logo” on the electrical panel in the new home
