For most of us on Long Island, owning a new home is not an option. Between the new home cost and tax rates, the thought of a new house is out of the question. Older homes are often the better deal and many items which are not included in a new home are in the price of existing home, such as landscaping and finished basements to name just a few.  I often find in older homes the quality of workmanship to be a higher level than some of the new homes. That’s just an unfortunate sign of the times. Older homes may come with old appliances, heating systems may be outdated with inefficient doors and windows.

A home energy rating involves a home inspection by a specially trained building science professional.  Home Energy Solutions personnel are certified by a nationally accredited home energy rating system.  The inspection includes diagnostic performance testing of a home's envelope and HVAC system and air leakage.  Home Energy Solutions is an independent certified ENERGY STAR Inspection service with no allegiance to any company selling Home Improvements or HVAC contractors, YOU are our customer. 

Using diagnostic test equipment such as a blower door, we can pinpoint problems in your home and their solutions.  A blower door test is used to measure air leakage and trace air flow.

Forced hot air systems are checked for leakage and balance which affects performance and varied temperatures throughout the house.

Dangerous carbon monoxide fumes can enter the living space when gas or oil fired appliances are not vented properly.  This is known as back drafting and often occurs with poorly vented heating systems, water heaters, stoves, and clothes dryers.

Home Energy Solutions can identify moisture problems which can lead to structural damage.
